While Samsung has been publicizing its huge 292-inch MicroLED aptly named The Wall since 2017, a new challenger has emerged from the fold that could give Samsung’s monstrous MicroLED a run for its money.
The new screen is called M1 4K 165 inch TV and is being made by an Austrian agency called C-Seed. What makes it special, in addition to its huge screen size, is that it hides under the floor when not in use and costs – be prepared for it – almost half a million dollars ($ 400,000 or about £ 300,000 / AU $ 520,000).
When rising from the ground, the M1 is about 2.10 meters high and has four panels that fold together perfectly thanks to C-Seed’s Adaptive Gap Technology, which makes the edges between the display panels completely invisible.
It’s impressive to be honest, but at this price it probably won’t be something that fits our budget anytime soon.
Will MicroLED ever be accessible?
It’s hard to look at the M1 and not feel a twinge of envy – who wouldn’t want a 165-inch HDR 4K TV with support for HDR10 + that fits perfectly when not in use?
In addition to its cool appearance, Samsung says that its version of MicroLED TVs can achieve up to 4,000 nits of maximum brightness and have black levels that rival OLED screens. Considering that the panels are probably supplied by Samsung, our guess is that the M1 is probably capable of the same thing.
While the M1 is out of reach for most of us, unfortunately so are most other Micro LED TVs available on the market now – the most affordable model, Samsung’s Wall on a 146-inch screen, costs $ 300,000. and it is not available in any retail store.
There is a glimmer of hope on the horizon that Samsung’s smaller MicroLED TVs, like the 88-inch version of The Wall, which will arrive later this year, are more affordable. But considering that the 88-inch versions of other high-end TVs, such as the LG Signature ZX 8K OLED, cost around $ 30,000, it may take a while before we see one in our price range.
