The final secret of Nier: Automata was found, more than 3 years later

The final secret in Nier: automata has been discovered, allowing you to jump straight into the final moments of the game.

The code can only be used after defeating the prologue chief, Marx. After talking to the 9S, you will need to place 2B between two sets of barrels in the empty chief’s room. While holding down R2 on the controller, you need to press up, down, up, right, left, the square, the circle, the triangle and the cross – in that order. You will need to keep 2B between the two barrels, but you can pause the game and use the cheat code to help you do that.

After doing this, the game will jump to the post-credit scene, as well as unlock the chapter selection feature and some debugging features. Unlocking these features usually requires you to clean up the multitude of Nier finals, so this is a good time saver if you just want to repeat certain parts of the game. However, it is not recommended if you have not yet played the game.

The code was found by the modder Lance McDonald, who discovered the code during the reverse engineering of the game. Although he usually focused on unlocking developer tools in the game, he found a code sequence that was unfamiliar to him. After deciphering everything, he found this last secret. McDonald discovered other secrets in more games, like PT

Nier: automataYoko Taro’s director recognized on Twitter the discovery of the final Nier secret, using a very intense emote to show how he felt about how long the secret took to be discovered.

A Twitter user also pointed out that this cheat code also appears in Bayonetta 2, another game from Platinum Games.
