Godzilla vs Kong trailer

As promised, the first trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong reached yesterday before its launch on 26 March. And while there’s a lot to discuss in terms of revelations and plot, the name of the game for this first trailer is just plain fun. It remains to be seen if this ends up representing the real movie, but this first trailer definitely strives to set a tone. The 2014 GodzillaThe trailer was a mystery. Godzilla: King of the Monsters‘first trailer was for grandeur. This is about wrestling. And that’s how it should be. That’s how we got to a movie called Godzilla vs. Kong after all.

Let’s look more closely.

We’re starting things off with a literal bang, like an explosion of stones over an unsuspecting city. It is not clear what city this is (insightful geography nerds, feel free to speak in the comments), but it does not seem to be in America.

While this may seem like an arbitrary big-bang trailer opening, there is something important to understand here. Possibly the biggest reveal of the entire trailer, actually. If you look closely at the scene of humans fleeing all these explosions, you will see an almost invisible figure rising above them. It’s not Godzilla and it’s definitely not Kong. That, ladies and gentlemen, is almost certainly Mechagodzilla.

Things are now moving forward for a group of ships carrying a very important cargo: Kong himself. Is that how your introduction happens in the film too? Or will we see your actual capture? Honestly, jumping directly to an already apprehended Kong is not the worst idea in the world, but as we will see later in the trailer, it is not likely to happen here.

It is good to see that the plan is not that Kong only sleeps the entire trip. Although chained, he is allowed to sit and have some fun, which indicates a possible lack of anger at being captured. This may have something to do with the ship From others charge.

So, in this movie, Kong has a girl he needs to protect. It appears that it comes from Skull Island, which apparently answers the question above about whether or not we will see Kong’s capture or not. This girl has a bond with Kong and the human ally Ilene Andrews (Rebecca Hall), all of whom can be assumed to have been caught by the heroic / villain Nathan Lind (Alexander Skarsgård), who needs Kong to protect humanity from “what it’s coming . ”

As if in suggestion …

Here comes Godzilla. And to protect your young friend …

The fight has begun!

The monster-on-monster action above is like a dream come true for kaiju fans.

With this action set completely proven, it’s time to get back to the main storyline of Godzilla vs. Kong. That is, with two films establishing Godzilla as a benevolent monster, why would he suddenly attack a bunch of ships? Someone seems to be manipulating him. Perhaps that someone is Walter Simmons (Demián Bichir). Or maybe it’s this guy …

It is not yet known who these characters are, but the person portrayed here is definitely facing a reading that indicates the use of Mechagodzilla in this film. And judging by the opening scenes, the Mechagodzilla in this film doesn’t look like a hero.

This leads us to reintroductions to Godzilla: King of the Monsters characters, starting with Mark Russell of Kyle Chandler, still irritatingly running and screaming about Godzilla. It looks like he can really be right this time.

In his own Godzilla adventure, we also have a return from Millie Bobby Brown, this time accompanied by Julian Dennison and Bryan Tyree Henry to find out who is behind this most cruel and violent Godzilla, wreaking havoc everywhere.

Speaking of the destruction of Godzilla, here is a good picture of some. This film is not really holding back its atomic breathing movement.

The trailer continues with a greater focus on Kong, telling us about a great kaiju war in the past, and that only Godzilla and Kong survived. Many out-of-context images accompany this idea – Kong taking an ax, Kong killing animals on Skull Island, Kong putting his hand on a bloody handprint – but none of that illuminates the dialogue we hear. What war was that? It was the MUTOs, Mothra, Rodan, Ghidorah or any other kaiju that we saw in King of monsters part of that? Kong and Godzilla have faced each other before?

For those who are questioning how lil Kong is now big enough to face Godzilla, the answer seems to be simpler than expected: the Kong we saw in Kong: Skull Island he was not yet fully grown. Here it is.

The trailer definitely makes it look like the climax of the film is a big fight in a neon-lit city. Given the absence of Mechagodzilla in those shots, it is also possible that this is just a trailer-rich fight closer to the middle of the film, with a much bigger fight remaining under wraps at this point.

It may be this daytime struggle, for example.

The two fighters are not completely alone in the city’s fight, however. This scene shows some kind of winged bat bothering Kong. The bright colors below him indicate that this is part of the sequence, but what are these little boys doing there?

It is easy to lose control of the human cost that all this struggle causes. And hey, there doesn’t have to be a big focus on humans anyway. However, this photo worn by Alexander Skarsgård’s battle indicates some bad things reserved for his character.

But let’s be honest. The trio of images above is the reason why we all saw this film and it seems Godzilla vs. Kong will deliver it in great abundance. Just going to what we see here, we have a ship fight, a fight in the smoky daylight and a fight in the city. In addition, we have Kong detonating on Skull Island and a lot of action not yet seen with Mechagodzilla. That’s a good number of action scenarios for a film like this. Hopefully Godzilla vs. Kong fulfills the promise of this fun trailer. At the very least, we now have a movie in which King Kong fights Godzilla with an ax. It is hard to imagine anything more cool than that.
