The Feed Pail: Gamecocks find their man in OC

Welcome back to Feed Pail, which I’m using as a repository this weekend because the news has been coming fast and furious and some of us have daily jobs, damn it. But, since 2021 has already been a year without chills, I think it is not surprising that our Gamecocks have entered the intrigue.

Beamer hires Panthers assistant as offensive coordinator

We have an offensive coordinator again! After Mike Bobo’s abrupt departure, Marcus Satterfield comes to save Gamecocks’ day. Hired by the Carolina Panthers of the NFL, where he was an assistant offensive line coach, Satterfield has worked with Shane Beamer in Tennessee, where the two were senior assistants, so there is an existing relationship. Satterfield is also a longtime associate of Matt Rhule, the former chief of Baylor who now leads the Panthers and is known for being both a strong offensive mind and a program creator. This could be a very good combination for South Carolina, considering all things, so consider us cautiously optimistic about the move.

South Carolina will FINALLY play at Chick-fil-A Kickoff

Although Gamecocks appeared several times against several North Carolina schools at the Belk Bowl Kickoff held in Charlotte, they somehow never came close to the long-running Chick-fil-A Kickoff in Atlanta, which was the opening of the original competition season. between the ACC and the SEC. South Carolina will finally make its late appearance at the 2025 event against Virginia Tech, who is the alma mater of new coach Shane Beamer, whose father, Frank, is the legendary Hokie coach. Prepare your plots – you have a few years to improve them. (By the way, Gamecocks have the series against VT, which is currently at 11-7-2.)

Gamecocks acquire some commitments

Yes, you read that correctly – South Carolina is allowed to to add players to your list instead of simply losing them via the transfer portal. It is true! Here are the three players who chose to make Columbia their new home:

  • Kolbe Fields, three-star linebacker, previously committed to Oklahoma State and Memphis
  • David Spaulding, three-star perspective, defensive defense, transfer from Southern Georgia
  • Darryl Williams, three-star prospect, linebacker, Delaware transfer (FCS)

All three appointments pulled the trigger on Thursday. Not bad for a day at work!

And in case you missed it, a hoop update

If you enjoyed watching the men’s basketball team finally play (and win!) Games, guess what? It won’t happen again, because this weekend’s road competition against Ole Miss has been postponed due to COVID problems on the Gamecock side. Unfortunately, the problem also affected women in South Carolina, who were forced to postpone the game against Georgia last Thursday. At the time of this writing, we still don’t know when either team will be back in action – let’s just hope it doesn’t take a month as it did with the men at USC.
