The Face / Off sequence is in the works 24 years after John Travolta and Nicolas Cage star in it

The 1997 Face / Off film, starring John Travolta and Nicolas Cage, was a silly but fun action film about two enemies changing faces.

Now, 24 years later, Hollywood is doing a blockbuster sequel.

On Friday Deadline shared that director Adam Wingard would make the next film, but he did not reveal whether Travolta and Cage will be part of the next film.

When it was said that the film could be a remake instead of a sequel, Adam went to Instagram to make his thoughts clear.

‘I would NEVER rethink or redo FACE / OFF. It’s a perfect action movie, ‘he wrote, adding a photo of Cage screaming. ‘Simon Barrett and I are writing a direct SEQUEL!’

Neal Moritz will produce the film for Paramount and Hollywood veteran David Permut will also serve as executive producer.

The first film was a success with Travolta and Cage, who were still big action stars at the time, playing a game of cat and mouse.

Travolta was FBI agent Sean Archer, who intended to track down Cage’s perverted terrorist, Castor Troy.

Unbelievably, they change faces, which was ridiculous at the time, but has since become a possibility.

The film grossed $ 245 million worldwide, making it the 11th highest grossing film of 1997.

Travolta, 66, and Cage, 57, are active in their film careers, so they may be asked to redo their roles or just make cameos.

John Woo directed the first film with a budget of $ 80 million.

It all started as a specification script in 1900 and then Woo became interested in the project.

The first actors chosen to play Sean Archer and Castor Troy were Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, respectively, but they did not join.

Michael Douglas was also fit for the role, but was approved and turned himself in to one of the executive producers.

Jean-Claude Van Damme and Harrison Ford were also suggested as possible leads.

Travolta had a difficult year in 2020. His wife Kelly Preston passed away in July after a battle with breast cancer.

And Christmas 2020 was the first Saturday Night Live actor without actress Jerry Maguire by his side.

In December, the star shared a video with her daughter Ella Bleu, 20, and her son Benjamin, 10, at her home while wishing the fans a Merry Christmas.

– Merry Christmas, Ella! said the pilot. Ella looked pretty in black pajamas standing in front of the white-covered Christmas tree while holding the phone.

There were several packages behind her, as well as a set of black luggage. Benjamin was shirtless while sitting on a green chair savoring a cookie.

‘Merry Christmas from the Travolta family!’ the Face / Off star wrote in his Instagram caption.

Also not in the video was her son Jett, who died in 2009 at the age of 16 after suffering a seizure and hitting his head in a bathroom.

Kelly’s passing was a shock to fans as she kept her health a secret.

A family representative told People magazine: ‘On the morning of July 12, 2020, Kelly Preston, a beloved wife and mother, passed away after a two-year battle with breast cancer.’

“Choosing to keep her fight private, she had been in medical treatment for some time, with the support of her family and close friends,” said the family representative. ‘She was a bright, beautiful and loving soul who cared deeply about others and gave life to everything she touched. Her family asks for your understanding of their need for privacy right now. ‘

Travolta and Preston were married for 29 years before his death in July.

“It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly lost her two-year battle against breast cancer. She fought a brave fight with the love and support of so many ”, he wrote on Instagram.

John also shared a message on Thanksgiving Day.

John showed off his shaved head and wore a black turtleneck when addressing his three million followers on social media.

“I just wanted to take this moment to thank each of you for supporting me in such an incredible way this year,” he said. ‘Happy Thanksgiving and always love.’

John’s last film was The Fanatic, 2019.
