The explosion hits downtown Nashville on Christmas Day

An explosion shook downtown Nashville on Friday morning, with black smoke filling the morning sky, according to local reports.

Fox 17 of Nashville said the explosion was reported at approximately 5:40 am local time.

“There is an incident involving an explosion,” the Nashville Fire Department said in a statement. “This is an active scene. The Nashville Metro Police Department and the Nashville Fire Department are on site. There are no additional details to be provided at this time.”

Police and firefighters quickly entered the scene after the explosion caused noticeable tremors in the surrounding area.

According to social media posts, the explosion resulted in significant damage to a building that was on fire, with dozens of people evacuated.

Metro Nashville’s Emergency Management Office said the explosion came from a parked trailer that exploded.

Singer-songwriter Cassadee Pope was one of those who felt the effects of the incident.

“Our house shook here in Nashville,” tweeted Pope. “Just praying that nobody gets hurt.”
