Launch on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
About four years after its initial release, Experiment 101’s much-delayed open-world action RPG Biomutant – also described as a “post-apocalyptic kung fu fable” – finally has a release date and will be released on PS4 , Xbox One and PC on May 25.
Experiment 101 was founded by former members of the developer of Just Cause Avalanche Studios, and its debut title Biomutant aims to build the familiar open-world formula, giving players the opportunity to personalize their animal protagonist with different mutations and biomechanical parts body and equipment – affecting the statistics and skills available as you progress through the expansive, pest-infested landscape in an attempt to save the Tree of Life.
The end result is a surprisingly vibrant type of post-apocalypse, combining exploration (both on the ground and in the air) with highly customizable shootings, combat inspired by martial arts and a narrative based on branched missions. At least part of that can be seen in last year’s nearly ten-minute game trailer from THQ Nordic publisher.

When Biomutant is released on May 25, it will be available as a standard edition, along with two special edition releases. The Collector’s Edition costs around £ 100 and features the game, a hero figurine, art, soundtrack and a “premium box”.

There is also a considerably more expensive Atomic edition that, for £ 349.99, includes all of the above (without the statuette), plus a “high detail” diorama, steel book, t-shirt and an oversized mousepad, presumably for the benefit of those struggling to contain their huge mice.
