If true, this will be the second Bethesda game to turn into a TV show.
Netflix is planning to create a TV show based on The Elder Scrolls franchise.
Building on the success of similar adaptations that have turned The Witcher and Castlevania into strong programs on the streaming service, there are now rumors that Netflix is trying to repeat the formula with a program based on Bethesda’s action RPG as well.
The rumor came through industry insider Daniel Ritchtman (£) (thanks, Game Rant), who reports that Netflix is looking to adapt the fan favorite franchise. Admittedly, it’s just a rumor now – we haven’t heard from Bethesda, Microsoft or Netflix – but given that there are already plans to turn Fallout 4 into a TV show, it’s certainly plausible.
In case you missed it, The Elder Scrolls Online’s next big adventure is about Oblivion, as revealed during the Game Awards. There is a revelation event scheduled for January 21, 2021 to take a look at this new storyline.
As we explained at the time, Oblivion was the RPG Bethesda released for PC and Xbox 360 in March 2006. It takes place inside Cyrodiil and it is up to you to bring down a cult called Mythic Dawn that plans to open portals for the demonic kingdom known as Oblivion. The opening scene involves escaping from a prison alongside Emperor Uriel Septim VII, voiced by Patrick Stewart. Eventually, you emerge in this vast fantasy world open before you.
The Elder Scrolls Online’s Gates of Oblivion follows the 2020 Dark Heart of Skyrim chapter, which leaned towards the eternally popular Skyrim.
