The Diablo version of Magic: The Gathering will be available in March

Magic: Legends is an upcoming free-to-play action RPG, and the game’s open PC beta starts on March 23. The developer Cryptic Studios shared a new video that shows the deck-building element of the game, inspired by the source material of Magic: The Gathering.

While Magic: Legends is in the same genre as Diablo’s titles, Magic: The Gathering it is best known as a competitive card game where players build decks and fight opponents. This element is transported to Subtitles, and the game is based on the tradition of the card game.

Each deck consists of 12 spells, with four available at the same time. New spells circulate randomly as the player uses the tools at their disposal, creating a system where players can determine which specializations and tactics they want to follow, while still having elements out of their control in moment-to-moment combat.

Players familiar with Magic: The Gathering will recognize the five schools of magic: White, Red, Blue, Black, Green. Green focuses on the magic of nature, how to summon huge creatures and control the world around you, while black is about necromantic magic and deadly curses.

There are also classes of players, and the classes are aligned with a school of magic, but are not restricted to those affinities. For example, a blue magic class can go ahead and build a red / green hybrid deck without worrying about incompatibilities.

The game is developed by Cryptic Studios and published by Perfect World Entertainment. Magic: Legends will be released on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One later in 2021. Magic is also coming to Netflix as an animated series.
