The popular anime series Hataraku Maō-sama! – known in English as The Devil Is a Part-Timer! – is returning for a second season eight years after its original completion.

The devil is part of the time The 2nd season was announced today at the Kadokawa Corporation Light Novel Expo. The first trailer and key art for the new season have been released, the first of which confirms the return of the original Japanese voice cast. That said, there are no plot details or release dates available at the moment, nor has it been confirmed whether the original English cast will return as well (although they certainly look interested).

The series follows the Demon Lord Satan, who aims to conquer the world of Ente Isla by annexing its four continents. On his way is the hero Emilia, who kills two demonic generals of Satan, forcing him and one of his other generals, Alciel, to flee from Ente Isla, where they find themselves in modern-day Tokyo. To survive, a powerless Satan (under the pen name Sadao Maou) takes a part-time job at a fast-food restaurant called MgRonald’s – and quickly becomes a model employee.

The devil is a timer! started life as a series of light Japanese novels written by Satoshi Wagahara and illustrated by 029, which lasted from February 2011 to August 2020. A manga adaptation written by Wagahara and illustrated by Akio Hiiragi released in 2012. It is still in progress today and spawned a series of spinoffs, including the alternate universe set The devil is a timer! High school! – written by Wagahara and illustrated by Kurone Mishima – which lasted from 2012 to 2015.

An anime adaptation of The devil is a timer! was produced by White Fox and directed by Naoto Hosoda. Initially, it had a 13-episode season, premiering in April 2013 and concluding a few months later, in June 2013. The animation team for the recently announced second season has yet to be announced, although the trailer contains slightly different artwork. style than in the 1st season.
