The Destiny 2 cosmodrome will not expand to Destiny 1 par as promised

Destiny 2The planned expansion of Cosmodrome will not happen, the studio told fans on Thursday on its weekly blog. Instead, Bungie will focus on new projects.

Last year, Bungie said that Destiny 2The new Season of the Chosen would bring back two old Strikes from the original Destiny and expand the location of the Cosmodrome to “approximately Destination 1 Year 1 par. ” But when the players entered Tuesday morning for the new season, they found Old Russia unchanged.

Devil’s Lair Strike has returned to the game – although it is currently not selectable on the map, available only through Nightfall – but the Fallen SABER Strike was not available, and the Cosmodrome was still the same size as last season. Bungie clarified that The Devil’s Lair will be a normal Strike playlist next week, and that crashed SABER is disabled due to a bug.

But even with the Strikes in place, that doesn’t explain the missing parts of the Cosmodrome. Bungie’s promise to expand the destination dates back to June 2020, in its first post outlining Destiny Content Vault, a new system that allows the studio to cycle content in and out of the game. Two days after the launch of the Chosen Season, the studio finally said why the Cosmodrome had not changed.

“When we first shared our plans, we were still at the beginning of development and uncertain how far we would go with the Cosmodrome unvault,” said Bungie, referring to the initial June announcement. The studio said that, as the November launch of Beyond the light expansion approached, he had to decide whether to continue spending time and resources to bring the Cosmodrome back to its original Destiny or change to the development of new content for the future of Destiny 2.

With the return of Strikes done and the new player experience already established, the team decided to move on.

“Considering that we believed we had achieved our original goals and knowing the desire of the community and the team for new content, we chose the latter option,” said Bungie. “But when we made that decision, we did not adequately update their expectations on the extent to which the experience at the Cosmódromo would be extended and that was a mistake.”

With Destiny Content Vault, there is a chance that Bungie could expand Cosmodrome at some point in the future, adding the missing locations or the Plaguelands area – introduced in the original Destinyin Rise of Iron expansion – but the studio said it has nothing else planned for the site at the moment.

The Cosmodrome was the first place where players stepped when Bungie released the original Destiny in 2014. The studio brought about half of the original map of the location to Destiny 2 last fall with Beyond the light, and placed a new player questline to help acclimate new Guardians to the sequence.
