The Democrats plan offers $ 1,400 stimulus checks with the same income levels as in previous rounds

WASHINGTON – House Democrats released most of their coronavirus relief bill on Monday night, offering a measure that would extend a $ 400 weekly unemployment insurance payment until August 29 and send payments US $ 1,400 per person for most families without reducing the income limits of previous rounds.

Democrats have debated whether to lower these income levels, but the version submitted to vote on the Forms and Resources Committee this week gives total figures to individuals with incomes up to $ 75,000 and couples with incomes up to $ 150,000. The legislation also expands the child tax credit, extends daycare assistance and reinforces tax credits for health insurance.

It will be combined with pieces that advance in other commissions of the Chamber in order to pass the plenary of the Chamber later this month. Together, the measures constitute President Biden’s $ 1.9 trillion aid plan, which Democrats are trying to get through Congress quickly.

“Our nation is struggling, the virus has not yet been contained and the American people are counting on Congress to find this moment with bold and immediate action,” said Rep. Richard Neal (D., Massachusetts), the chairman of the committee whose panel will begin considering the project on Wednesday.

Other sections of the aid plan will provide $ 130 billion in funding for K-12 schools, $ 40 billion for colleges and universities and $ 39 billion for child care providers. Mr. Biden also proposed to offer funds for vaccine distribution, unemployment programs and state and local governments, among other measures.
