The dangerous cold continues, slow heating during the week

ONE Thermal sensation warning is in effect until Monday at noon.

Tonight: It was a record cold day, with hikes well below zero. Road conditions have improved, but some detours continue to lead to icy spots. We will partially crawl into cloudy skies tonight. The best chance for partly cloudy skies will be in the northwest and is where temperatures will be cooler, in the middle of the half below zero. Where the sky is generally cloudy, temperatures will be around one digit and two digits below zero. There may be some gusts in the southeast tonight. Winds will be from the north at 5 to 15 mph. This will produce dangerous chills from -25 to -40 degrees below zero. Freezing takes about 10 minutes on exposed skin.

Presidents Day: Monday will remain partly cloudy (northwest) to partly sunny with a chance of just a few flakes at the beginning of the southeast. Although temperatures improve, they can be below zero for the western and northern regions and slightly above zero for the eastern and southern areas. Chills will be in the range of -15 to -30 with a north wind of 5 to 15 mph.

Monday at night: The same trend of partly cloudy skies to the northwest and some gusts / clouds to the southeast continues on Monday night. Again, casualties drop for teens below zero in the northwest with single digits and two low digits below zero in the southeast. The winds will be a little lighter, but the chills will still be around 25 to 45 below zero.

Tuesday: The sky looks partly cloudy with a return to above zero temperatures. The winds are expected to be light and variable for Tuesday, with less drastic chills that will still be below zero. We will drop to a digit below zero on Tuesday night.

Wednesday: There will be a chance of light snow with highs even teenagers. The winds will be from the southeast at 5 to 10 mph.

Rest of the week: Thursday looks partly sunny and Friday partly cloudy. Temperatures are well below normal, but the highs remain in mid-adolescence on both days. The lows remain slightly below zero for much of the week.

Next weekend: There will be more clouds and a chance of snow on the weekend, BUT temperatures are back at around 20 and 20 degrees, with single digits and lows for lows. We should be back at 30 next week.
