The ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ update fixes a file save exploit on the PC

Another day another Cyberpunk 2077 update to correct a critical issue. Earlier this week, it was discovered that there was a vulnerability that could have allowed hackers to take control of players’ PCs through malicious code injected into mods and customized saved files. CD Projekt Red recommended that players avoid using mods until this resolves the problem.

Hotfix 1.12, which is now being released on the PC, “addresses the vulnerability that can be used as part of remote code execution (including saved files),” according to the studio. The update fixes a buffer overrun issue and removes and replaces non-ASLR DLLs.

It must be relatively safe for you to use Cyberpunk 2077 mods again. While there is always a chance that mods will include risky executable files, if you want to give the grimy Night City a comic book aesthetic, it’s probably okay with you.
