Rep. Lee Zeldin, RN.Y., quoted “thousands of elderly families killed in New York demanding this responsibility” on Sunday as he continued his call for an investigation into a possible obstruction of justice by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo , related to COVID- 19 deaths in nursing homes.
“We knew that the government was covering up, covering up many of the deaths, exactly how many infected patients were placed in nursing homes,” Zeldin told Sunday Morning Futures. “We found out this week that the number is over 9,000.”

A senior adviser to Cuomo admitted to leading state Democratic lawmakers that the government withheld data on deaths from coronavirus in nursing homes to avoid federal scrutiny, the New York Post first reported a few days ago.

Zeldin said he and his New York Republican colleagues in Congress sent a letter to the Justice Department demanding an investigation into his allegations of obstruction of justice.

Zeldin criticized Cuomo’s March 25 directive, which ordered thousands of elderly people infected with the coronavirus to return to assisted living facilities, nursing homes and other long-term care facilities. Cuomo’s preference among state Democrats could evaporate, Zeldin said.
“Governor Cuomo does not have a good answer for the reason for this decision, since he had available capacity in the [USNS] Comfort and the Javits Center, “said Zeldin.” Right now, there are many Democrats in the New York state legislature behind him.
