The CPAC organizer strongly denies that the stage was designed to look like the Nazi symbol.

Matt Schlapp, the head of the American Conservative Union organizing the Conservative Political Action Conference, is battling those who said the stage for the event taking place in Orlando is frighteningly reminiscent of a Nazi symbol. “Scenography conspiracies are outrageous and slanderous,” Schlapp tweeted. He went on to say that “the CPAC is proudly on the side of our Jewish allies”.

The fact that Schlapp felt the need to comment on the subject illustrates how widespread comparisons have become social media so many pointed out that the shape of the stage it looked like a Nazi symbol. Specifically, many said that the stage looked like a version of the Odal rune, also known as the Othala rune. The symbol dates back to centuries, but was also used by some Nazi divisions of the SS during World War II. The symbol was printed on the uniforms of some Nazi soldiers.

Some social media users shared photos who compared the CPAC stage with the old uniforms, illustrating the similarity. The Anti-Defamation League pointed out that after World War II, the symbol became commonly used among white supremacists and neo-nazis in Europe and North America.
