The COVID-19 vaccine is now available for all 16 years and older in Montgomery County

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Residents aged 16 or over can make an appointment today for the COVID-19 vaccine in Montgomery County.

The Montgomery County Health Department, along with other health departments across Tennessee, has expanded its criteria to include 16 years or older, according to a press release from county spokeswoman Michelle Newell.

The Modern vaccine is authorized for people over 18 and Pfizer for people over 16.

“This opens the door for more people to get vaccinated earlier than expected. We are excited to move forward on this important initiative to help our community return to normal day-to-day activities, ”said Montgomery County Health Director Joey Smith.

Numbers being revised

Smith also said today that state data, which continue to show Montgomery behind other vaccination counties, is being updated to show that we are on a par.

“With the numbers now coming from Fort Campbell, we know that at least 25% of our adult population has been vaccinated. This puts us on an equal footing with other counties in Middle Tennessee. We can assume that the numbers are even higher because the 25% does not include the number of vaccinations that were given by local pharmacies through their partnership with the federal government. ”

Residents are reminded to continue wearing a mask, distancing themselves socially and taking the test when exposed or sick.

“It is important to note that we have not had any serious adverse effects reported from a COVID-19 vaccination in Montgomery County,” added Montgomery County Director of Emergency Services, Jimmie Edwards.
