The COVID-19 risk indicator remains yellow

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird and health officials updated the community on the city’s efforts to prevent the spread of the coronavirus at a meeting on Tuesday.

The Lincoln-Lancaster County Department of Health announced that two more residents died of COVID-19. The deaths were of a woman in her 50s who was hospitalized and a man in her 70s in a long-term care facility. The total death toll in Lancaster County is now 219. On behalf of the city, Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird expresses condolences to his families and friends.

LLCHD reports 40 confirmed cases in a COVID-19 lab in Lancaster County today, bringing the community total to 27,932.

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 positive patients: 35 with 25 from Lancaster County and 10 from other communities (none on ventilators).

An online COVID-19 vaccine registration form for Lancaster County residents is available at COVID19.lincoln.ne.gov. Those who do not have online access or who need help can call LLCHD’s COVID-19 hotline at 402-441-8006 from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm on weekdays to sign up.

The COVID-19 risk indicator remains at the moderate risk level (yellow).

The yellow position on the display means that the risk of spreading the virus in the community is moderate. In the color-coded display, red represents the highest risk of spread of COVID-19 and green represents the lowest risk. The dial is updated every Tuesday.

Risk Dial’s position is based on various local indicators and information from the previous three weeks.

  • The seven-day continuous average of new daily cases dropped from 85 cases on February 1 to 46 on February 20. Since February 8, the average has stabilized, ranging from 46 to 49 cases. The number of new weekly cases has been below 500 for three consecutive weeks. In the week ending February 20, the number of new cases was 325.
  • The positivity rate increased from 17.8% in the week ended on February 13 to 24.1% in the week ended on February 20.
  • Since February 11, the number of patients with COVID-19 hospitalized locally has fluctuated between 27 and 35.
