SANTO ANTÓNIO – More than 1,000 people lined up on Monday to roll up their sleeves and receive the COVID -19 vaccine at Alamodome.
Vaccination vacancies were very difficult, as appointments were filled in just six minutes on Saturday, when registrations for the 9,000 vaccines available to San Antonio residents for phases 1A and 1B were opened.
Reannon Rodriguez, deputy director of Memorial High School, was fortunate enough to secure a place to be vaccinated. Rodriguez said that getting the vaccine is a proud moment for her, because she is ready to return to her students safely.
“Just continuing to work regularly with my students, my teachers, my community, just doing your part to be safe,” said Rodriguez.
Although Rodriguez was lucky to secure a spot, other residents said they had trouble getting the vaccine, although they thought they had successfully registered.
Scott Pope showed KSAT an impression of the city’s website that confirmed his nomination.
“So, I waited for the entire line to get in and they said I didn’t have an appointment. Somehow, they didn’t have it on the computer, ”said Pope.
Organizers said the failure was probably due to the sheer volume of visitors to the site.
The organizers said that one way to know for sure if you have successfully registered with the city’s computer system is if you received a confirmation email with a QR code, which proves that you have an appointment.
The San Antonio Fire Department installed a separate mobile line on site for those who cannot stand in line or are elderly and have a disability sticker on their car. SAFD staff checks the paperwork and vaccinates local residents in their vehicles.
SAFD chief Charles Hood said he is proud that the launch is proceeding relatively smoothly and knows that any problems will be resolved.
“In general, in a situation like this, you will have some technical problems and challenges. We had a few, but when it comes to vaccinating, those who have to stay in their vehicles who can’t stand or move, these parts are doing well, ”said Hood.
