The city’s iconic Denver Diner closes after 30 years

DENVER – One of Denver’s last iconic restaurants is closing its doors forever. The Denver Diner announced on Sunday that it will not reopen.

The cafeteria has been a staple on the corner of Colfax and Speer for more than 30 years. But the restrictions imposed on business amid the COVID-19 pandemic appeared to have contributed to the owner’s decision not to reopen.

The diner closed in November, when Denver went to Level Red on the state’s COVID-19 dial. However, the city moved to a less restrictive level earlier this month, which allowed meals indoors with a 25% capacity.

“It is with great sadness that we announce our decision not to reopen. Read the article if you want to know more. We may be gone now, but not forever, ”wrote Denver Diner on his Facebook page, with a link to a Westwood article announcing the closure.

The restaurant’s general manager, Konstantine Skordos, told Denver7 that he hopes to open another Denver Diner soon, when it’s safe, but it won’t be in the same location.
