The Celtics would have been a finalist to acquire Nikola Vucevic

The Celtics had a very busy trading day, and it could have been even busier.

Boston was a finalist in the draw Nikola Vucevic, O Boston Globe Adam Himmelsbach reported Friday. The Celtics’ offer to the big All-Star player included several choices in the first round, a league source told Himmelsbach.

Magic ended up swapping Vucevic and striker Al-Farouq Aminu for the Chicago Bulls for young centerman Wendell Carter Jr., Otto Porter Jr. and two choices in the first round.

The Celtics were also finalists for Magic striker Aaron Gordon, according to Himmelsbach. There were rumors that Boston would be in negotiations to acquire Gordon in the days before the deadline, with a report suggesting that guard Marcus Smart was involved in trade negotiations. However, the Celtics did not offer Smart and instead offered an unspecified young player, in addition to a choice in the first round.

Orlando finally dispatched Gordon to Denver for Guards Gary Harris Jr. and RJ Hampton, as well as a choice in the first round.

The Celtics ended up making a deal with Magic, acquiring point guard Evan Fournier for two choices in the second round and using about $ 17 million from his $ 28.5 million exception. Veteran guard Jeff Teague was also sent to Magic as part of the deal.
