Politicians who deny COVID are being vaccinated first, and yes, we are furious
Last week, we were completely delighted and emotionally touched by videos of frontline healthcare professionals receiving the first round of COVID vaccines. This week, our emotions are a little more confused, as politicians – including some who have minimized or even denied the seriousness of the pandemic – are documenting their experiences of being vaccinated. And by “mixed”, we mean indignant. On Sunday, Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) shared a photo via Twitter of his vaccination. “Today, on the recommendation of the Doctor’s Office, I received the first dose of vaccine # COVID19”, tweeted Ernst. “I encourage all Iowa residents and Americans to do the same when the time comes. Thanks to #OperationWarpSpeed and the tireless work of Americans across the country, we are one step closer to defeating this virus. ”An interesting and irritating feeling coming from someone who once suggested that frontline health workers were lying about the number of people who died of COVID-19 to make a profit. “These healthcare providers and others are reimbursed at a higher rate if Covid is tied to that, so what do you think they are doing,” said Ernst, as reported by the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier in September, repeating a conspiracy unmasked theory propagated by QAnon supporters. Iowa now ranks 28th in the world for COVID-related deaths. But hey, at least Ernst is vaccinated. Of course, Ernst is not the only GOP COVID denier who can now boast of having received the vaccine. The hypocritical tweeter of the biblical verse, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), also shared a photo of the moment he received the vaccine. “I know I looked away from the needle,” joked the senator. Because, at a time when 8 million Americans have fallen into poverty and about 40 million Americans are facing the real possibility of eviction, joking about how sensitive and sensitive you are is not deaf to tones. “And yes, I know that I need a tan. But I am so confident that the # Covid19 vaccine is safe and effective that I decided to take it myself. ” There is. There is. Rubio complained last month that the media was focusing too much on COVID-19, and repeatedly downplayed the virus and remained silent while the outgoing president mocked people for wearing masks. But now that he can jump in front of healthcare professionals, teachers, the elderly and others who are at risk of contracting and dying from COVID, he doesn’t seem to be so upset about media coverage of his early vaccination. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) also shared a photo of her vaccination, tweeting, “Thank God for nurses who help people in need and know how to use a needle. Thank God for those who produced these vaccines. If enough of us accept it, we will return to normal life. Help is on the way. “Graham had little regard for those who needed help when he minimized the virus, spread falsehoods about the COVID-19 test, praised Trump repeatedly for his incorrect handling of the virus, threatened the World Health Organization (WHO) and voted against expanding unemployment benefits. If that makes you angry, you’re not alone – and you’re totally right to feel that way. The reason these hypocritical politicians are now getting the vaccine is what’s known as “ governance continuity “- a principle that ensures that the government can continue to function in dire and catastrophic circumstances. But Republican Party politicians seemed to have little or no concern for the government’s ability to function when they attended unmasked broadcast events or avoided security measures of social detachment. This recklessness led to the infection of important politicians, White House officials, members of the Trump office and the president of the United States himself. But did they care? No. Instead, Republican congressmen wore gas masks on the floor of the Chamber jokingly, making fun of a virus that killed hundreds of thousands and left millions without work. So to see these same people jump to the front of the vaccination line is to witness an abomination – a crime committed against the very people they have sworn to represent and protect. Even though the reason these politicians are being vaccinated now seems good – to reassure the very public that they were nervous about the safety of the vaccine in the first place – is too little, too late. More than 318,000 Americans died of the same virus that they insist is no more deadly than the common flu. Why should they redeem themselves now? Why should they protect themselves when they cost the lives of so many other people? The truth is that they were arrogant because they knew that they would always have access to first-rate health care if they became ill and, when the time came, they would be the first to receive the vaccine. There have been more than 17 million cases of COVID-19 in the United States. Yesterday, at least 1,422 people died from the virus. Cases of violence between intimate partners are increasing, as are the number of deaths from suicide, cases of alcohol and other substance abuse and overdoses. Women are being expelled from the workforce in record numbers and the mental health of all Americans is deteriorating. Hospitals have reached ICU capacity, doctors and nurses are overworked and overworked, and there are still emergency room doctors waiting to be vaccinated. Meanwhile, people who are directly responsible for politicizing a deadly virus are publicly sharing their vaccines, with little regard for the lives they have endangered. As “God” wrote via Twitter, we may need a new commandment: “Don’t make fun of the plague like a scam for a year and then you will be the first in line to get the vaccine while throwing $ 600 at the peasants and then continuing to pretend you are a ‘good Christian’ ”. Like what you see? How about a little more R29 goodness, right here? Why is Mike Pence being vaccinated on TV? I’m obsessed with watching nurses get vaccinated Do rich countries accumulate COVID vaccines?
