The CDC issues new guidelines for people who are fully vaccinated

John Yang:

Judy, the CDC says that people who are fully vaccinated should continue to follow certain precautions, such as wearing a mask and walking away when visiting an unvaccinated person who is at high risk of serious infection, wearing a mask and walking away in public and continuing to avoid for a long time-traveled distance.

These new guidelines are now formulated in warnings. And officials say they can change as new data becomes available.

Dr. Richard Besser is a former acting chief of the CDC. He is now CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, which is a “NewsHour” funder.

Dr. Besser, thank you for being with us.

Many people want to know what that means. As more and more people get the vaccine, they want to know what these new guidelines mean.

A not-so-random example, my sister’s first grandson was born in October. She and her husband are fully vaccinated. Her son and daughter-in-law are teachers. They got their first chance. Soon, they will be fully vaccinated.

When they are fully vaccinated, will my sister be able to see her first grandchild on anything other than a computer screen?
