The cat in “Soul” is fine, here’s what happened

If you have experienced the joy you are watching Soul recently, so I don’t need to say how great the movie is.

Side note: Spoilers ahead!

Pixar’s latest animated film follows the adventurous journey of friends Joe Gardner and 22 through life and death, but there was a little star that made fans even more concerned …

For a quick update, when Joe manages to return to Earth, he accidentally ends up in the body of Mr. Mittens, a therapy cat. However, this, in turn, takes Mr. Mittens’ soul out of his own body and on an unexpected journey to the afterlife.

And, just saying, the fans were like, “Oh no!”

Believe it or not, it was not just viewers who were concerned with Mittens’ soul. The film’s director, Pete Docter, revealed that the filmmakers themselves also invested in the feline story:

One of our most persistent notes during the making of the film: “but what about the cat’s soul?” #PixarSoul

Now, the cat returns to its own body, although the film does not explain how.

And it left me (and I suppose everyone else) was like, “YAY, BUT HOW ?!”

Good, Soul writer and co-director Kemp Powers put the question aside with a simple answer in a tweet: The cat had 9 lives!

The cat had 9 lives, to answer your question about how he got back. In fact, we embarked on an entire sequence that showed how Mr. Mittens came back to the body. We were thinking about playing it in the final credits, but it was a little bit silly in tone. #PixarSoul

Powers also explained that there was an entire sequence that they thought to animate for the final credits, but that it was “a little too silly in terms of tones”.

IDK, maybe if we ever get lucky, we can see this as an animated short from Pixar. At least I would love to see it! How about you?!
