The car hits the house; homeowner begs for help from the city

JACKSONVILLE, Florida. – A car crashed into a house on Saturday morning in the Harborview neighborhood, near Lem Turner Road.

“To be honest with you, it looked like a bomb went off,” said a resident who lives indoors with his family. He asked that his name not be published with this story. “A big bomb went off and everything went everywhere.”

Pieces of concrete and rubble could be seen across the front and side of the property. The electrical wires were disconnected and JEA had to cut power and running water until repairs could be made. The family opened a GoFundMe account to raise money to help with home repair costs.

The man told News4Jax that a car he was driving on Clyde Drive after midnight got off the road and headed straight for his living room. Four people were in there at the time. Nobody was hurt.

“My family was scared,” he said.

“I was on the other side lying on the couch watching TV when I heard a big explosion,” said the man.

He said he hid behind the sofa, but he recognized the sound.

Two and a half years ago, the family said, the same thing happened and just two weeks ago, another car entered a different house in its neighborhood.

“I tried to contact my councilor, but we need some curbs for protection,” he said. “We can save or lose a life, to be honest with you. That’s why I’m here tonight. I am begging the city of Jacksonville to do something about this curve. If you look outside, the city lights are on, but they are dim and this is a winding corner. “

The City Council has heard people about a petition to resolve the problems at Soutel Drive, which is on the corner of Clyde Drive, but residents of this area are concerned that the city may be handling the problem wrongly.

News4Jax contacted City Councilwoman Brenda Priestly Jackson, who represents the area, for comment, but we have yet to respond. We will update if we get an answer.

New4Jax also contacted the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office for more information about the accident.

There are two schools in the vicinity.
