In the statement, Newsom cited the deadly riot that took place at the United States Capitol last week as a reason for his decision to increase security not only in the state capital, but also throughout the state of California.
“Our State Operations Center is actively working with federal, state and local law enforcement partners to assess threats and share intelligence and information to ensure that these shameful actions are not repeated here,” said Newsom.
Lawmakers questioned how protesters managed to easily break into the Capitol, although the police were aware of the event in advance. Reports emerged that the FBI had initial information that suggested the protest could become violent the day before it occurred.

According to the statement from the Newsom office, the California Highway Patrol and the Department of General Services installed a 6-foot wire fence around the state capital.
“The governor and his team are also closely coordinating with local, state and federal authorities, as well as the private sector – including social media companies – to ensure that their platforms are not used by hate groups or domestic terrorists to organize or publicize incorrect information, misinformation or advertising, “the statement said.
