A British left-wing baroness suggested a 6 pm curfew for men to make “women much safer” on the streets of London during a debate in the House of Lords of the UK Parliament on Wednesday.
Jenny Jones, a member of the Green Party, formally called Baroness Jones of Moulsecoomb, made the observation after the disappearance and suspected murder of a 33-year-old London woman named Sarah Everard.
“In the week that Sarah Everard was abducted and, we suppose, killed – because the remains were found in a forest in Kent – I argue that, in the next opportunity for any appropriate bill, I could introduce an amendment to create a curfew for men on the streets after 6pm, “she said during a debate on domestic violence. “I think it would make women a lot safer and discrimination of all kinds would decrease.”
“I responded to the local police by telling women not to go out alone at night, turning the idea upside down,” explained Jones later in a Facebook post.

She stressed that it is “incredibly rare for a woman to be kidnapped” on the city streets.
“But I fully understand that, despite this, women in London and the general public – particularly those in the area where Sarah disappeared – will be concerned and may be afraid,” she added.
Local media identified the officer as Wayne Couzens, who worked in diplomatic functions at the United States embassy. His wife, Elena, was arrested on suspicion of helping a criminal, Sun reported.
Human remains were found at a golf course in Kent, where Everard was last seen, but authorities have not yet identified them publicly.
