The blind kitten Gabriel who lost his eyes due to the flu of the cat is reunited with his brother

Everything he wants for Christmas! Blind kitten Gabriel, who lost his eyes due to “cat flu”, reunites with brother Arthur six weeks after the separation of the wild animals

  • Gabriel lost both eyes after suffering from feline flu while having a wild colony
  • His brother Arthur had been rescued six weeks earlier by the RSPCA
  • The couple is now living in the same foster home and will soon be up for adoption

A blind kitten was reunited with his brother weeks after the wild animals were rescued separately by the RSPCA.

The 14-week-old kitten, named Gabriel, lost his eyes after suffering from feline flu, according to inspector Krissy Raine, who found him on Sunday, December 20, in Peterlee, County Durham.

Another kitten, Arthur, had been rescued six weeks earlier in the same area, and Krissy and her colleague realized that the pair must be brothers.

Regarding the cats’ meeting, she said: ‘It was a very special and exciting and wonderful moment to think that Gabriel would have something familiar in a different world.’

The video shows Arthur licking his brother’s face in a sign of affection, and Krissy revealed that the two knew each other immediately.

She added: ‘It is incredible that Gabriel survived. I took him to a vet and they believe he had cat flu that seriously damaged his eyes and they died. But he is very healthy, he didn’t need any treatment from the vets.

‘Although he was from a wild colony when I took him to the vets, they were shocked at how calm and friendly he was and instantly fell in love with him.

‘We call him Gabriel because he is an absolute angel and everyone who knows him adores him.’

Krissy’s colleague, Inspector Gemma Lynch, rescued Gabriel’s brother Arthur six weeks earlier from the same area.

Arthur was not well when he was rescued and had to undergo surgery to remove an eye, which would also have been damaged by cat flu. His second eye has been saved and Arthur will now act as a guide for Gabriel.

‘Gemma didn’t believe it when she realized that she had rescued his brother a few weeks earlier and we knew we had to get them together,’ said Krissy.

‘Arthur was being looked after by a foster family and they were very excited to learn that his brother had been rescued – they welcomed him with open arms too.

‘They are both with the same adoptive family now, they are so calm, caring and affectionate cats – so special little angels. Now that they are together again, Arthur can guide Gabriel through life.

The couple will be looking for a home together in the future, where they can live like domestic cats.

“After all that happened in 2020, this is a lovely story to share with people as a reminder that exciting things still happen every day,” said Krissy.

‘It is a Christmas miracle for Gabriel and Arthur – we are very happy that they are together on Christmas Day, it is the perfect gift for them.’
