The Biden government argues that the increase in migrants is a ‘challenge’, not a ‘crisis’

President Biden is refusing to call the situation on the southern border a crisis – even amid reports that his government needs an additional 20,000 beds in migrant facilities to deal with the increase in unaccompanied minors.

When asked during an appearance on Tuesday whether there was a border crisis, Biden refused to use the term.

“No – we will be able to handle it, God willing,” said Biden.

Later, at a meeting at the White House, Kristin Fisher of Fox News asked press secretary Jen Psaki, “at what point does this become a crisis?”

“We had the security of Homeland Security yesterday transmitting that it is a challenge,” replied Psaki. “We are going to approach this without labeling it. We are going to approach it politically, with humanity and with a focus on what we can do to keep these children safe.”

Experts predict that up to 117,000 unaccompanied minors will cross the border this year.

Meanwhile, Texas Democratic deputy Henry Cuellar, whose district includes a stretch of the US-Mexico border, said that while the situation is not yet a crisis for him, it is “getting there.”

SECRETARY BIDEN DHS, MAYORKAS, CLAIMS “NO” CRISIS ON THE SOUTHERN BORDER

“The numbers have been rising,” he told America’s Newsroom on Tuesday afternoon. “The number of unaccompanied children, the number of families that arrive increases every day. In my district, just a few days ago, 166 people [crossed the border]… So it is not yet a crisis, but it will get there very soon. “

He said the flow will not slow down until the president takes action.

“Spoken words are not going to stop them,” he said.

Texas Republican colleague Mike McCaul said the Biden government’s immigration policies are helping to encourage migrants to enter the country without permission.

“All the good we have done in the past four years to prevent illegal immigration will be undermined in a few months,” he told Fox News’ John Roberts in “America Reports”.
