The best recruits in the program’s history

The best recruits in football history in South Carolina.

Another initial hiring period is coming, with new coach Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks trying to save the 2021 class. The current class of the program is close to the SEC’s top echelon in size and stellar power, although some may surprise, as the best Colten Gauthier dowel.

While we are looking forward to seeing new hires, we also want to take a look at the best recruits in football history in South Carolina. This list includes several players who have followed successful professional careers, as well as a handful of candidates who played with Shane Beamer in his first stint at Gamecocks.

We will start the countdown with the fifth signer with the best ranking in the program.

# 5

Demetris Summer

RB University of South Carolina

Summers signed with Lou Holtz in the 2003 class, and was considered the greatest fighter in the country leaving Lexington High School, in a class that included the eventual Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush. He was one of only six five-star signatories to play for Gamecocks, four of which you will see on this list.

The 6-foot-1 congestion was ranked as the ninth best contender in all high school football and had an immediate impact in Colombia. As a freshman, he accumulated 638 running yards, 146 receiving yards, 136 returning yards and five touchdowns in total on his way to SEC freshman honors. He would lead the team in the race as a second year as well.

Unfortunately, Summers would be fired from the team after his second season, after failing a drug test, interrupting a promising career.
