The release of iOS 14.4 last month, had features like the camera that recognized smaller QR codes that were cool but didn’t change lives.
However, Apple’s upcoming iOS 14.5 update is gearing up to be one of the most important version updates of recent times. The company will launch in later this month, but let’s take a look at some interesting features that people have already noticed in the beta.
Face ID will work with masks
Aren’t you jumping for joy just thinking about it? If not, you should. Apple will allow you to unlock your phone with a facial ID even when you’re wearing a mask – but you’ll need an Apple Watch for that. Once this update is implemented, you will have to manually enable this feature in the settings. This is worth doing if you have to spend a lot of time away from home and wear a mask all the time.

Choose a standard music service for Siri
Currently, when you ask Siri to play a song, he opens Apple Music by default. If you want to play a track on a different streaming service, you need to specify this in the request: “Hey, Siri, play ‘Don’t Start Now’ on Spotify.” However, this can change with iOS 14.5 and you can choose another streaming app as the default for Siri technology music requests.

Advanced ad tracking protection
You won’t see this feature in action as your face ID, but it will work to protect your privacy at all times. With this update, applications will have to ask for permission before they are exclusive The Advertiser Identifier (IDFA) can track you and show you ads based on that data. You will be able to see all applications tracking you in Settings and make changes if you wish. Earlier this month, the company also released a white paper explaining how application tracking works.

In addition, Reddit users have noticed that Apple will feature a toggle button called “Measuring privacy preservation ads”, which is likely to allow you to interact with ads anonymously.

Apple Maps accident report
Apple will also present crowdsourced accident reports in its Maps application. A screenshot of the beta version of the software suggests that you will be able to report an accident, danger or a speed control weapon at a given location. If you don’t have time to stop, you can also use Siri to report an incident.

IPad horizontal boot screen
Apple is finally bringing a horizontal boot screen to the iPad. Currently, if your iPad is connected to the magic keyboard in landscape mode, it will be activated with a vertical boot screen. So, you will have to adjust the orientation first and this is annoying. Fortunately, Apple is correcting this with the next update.

Redirecting Google’s “safe browsing” traffic through Safari for anonymity
Minimum ad tracking is not the only feature in the iOS 14.5 update. Apple is also redirecting Google’s “Safe Browsing” traffic through their own servers – for sites on the Safe Browsing list – to keep your identity hidden. Safe Browsing provides browser clients with a list of harmful websites to avoid when using the Internet.
