The strangest CES ever staged is over. But no one will be marking stands in Las Vegas or earning $ 1,000 a night hotel rooms today with all the cool gadgets they’ve displayed all week. That’s because there wasn’t much new technology on display. Much of the CES was a repeat of previous weeks – and even months – of announcements. This made the all-digital case even stranger! But there were still some cool things that got us excited for 2021 and some absolutely wild things that made us laugh, shrink and just scratch our heads at audacity.
We will see more things as the year goes on too. Countless companies have suggested big news in the coming weeks, and with major competing programs like IFA and Computex probably still happening in late 2021, many companies may be holding onto their most stylish gadgets for consumer electronics shows that people can actually watch in person.
The best CES 2021 gadgets
Lenovo X1 Titanium Yoga
Although Lenovo hasn’t tried to reinvent the 2 in 1, combining an even more elegant design with a new titanium-coated body to create its thinnest ThinkPad ever, the new ThinkPad X1 Titanium Yoga it seems a little more special. And, as someone who enjoys good multitasking, the X1 Titanium Yoga not only features a 360-degree convertible chassis, but also comes with full pen support for drawing and taking notes and up-to-date specifications, including 11th generation Intel chips, Thunderbolt 4 and a high 3: 2 display perfect for all types of productivity. The ThinkPad X1 Titanium Yoga is simply a premium laptop with beauty. – Sam Rutherford
All 6E Wi-Fi routers
G / O Media can receive a commission
Last year, the Wi-Fi 6 standard promised to improve wi-fi speeds and performance on a congested network, using clever engineering tricks to increase the bandwidth of each wireless channel so more devices could operate simultaneously with less interference between channels. But it was more of a band-aid solution to a growing problem. 6E Wi-Fi Promises for future-proof Wi-Fi for a while, introducing a new 6 GHz band for the existing 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. The 6 GHz band offers 59 separate, non-overlapping channels so that multiple devices can operate at greater bandwidths at the same time. (Think of 8K smart TVs broadcasting 8K content.) The best part is that older legacy devices will not be able to access the 6 GHz band, only newer devices (which should arrive later this year), which must ensure that the new band does not immediately fill up with traffic. – Andrew Liszewski
Mudra Apple Watch Band
O Band mudra is a bracelet for the Apple Watch that allows you to control it with one hand. There are sensors that read electrochemical signals to interpret your various hand gestures. For example, you can play with your index finger and thumb to dismiss a call or close your thumb to skip a music track. There is a lot of potential for this type of device, both in terms of accessibility, as well as speakerphone convenience. And it’s not vaporware. The band costs $ 180 and is due out in March. – Victoria Song
Asus ROG Flex X13
It’s a 2 in 1 gaming laptop. Yes, a real 2 in 1 with 360 degree hinges. The included GPU could have a better impact (it’s just a GTX 1650), but the rest of the specs are pretty solid: a new mobile AMD Ryzen 9 5980HS mobile processor, liquid metal instead of normal thermal paste and a choice between a 120-inch screen Hz or UltraHD 4K covered with Corning Gorilla Glass. For those who want the option of a better GPU, the Flow X13 pairs with Asus XG Mobile, a compact eGPU that supports up to an RTX 3080. The price of the two together is expensive – $ 3,000 – but I hope Asus will sell the Flow X13 separately or at least make the XG Mobile available with other GPUs soon. . – Joanna Nelius
Samsung Bespoke 4-port Flex
I know it can be strange to be so excited about a refrigerator just because it makes a new type of ice, but innovation in the refrigerator space has been very scarce in recent years. Everything seemed to revolve around screens or windows on the doors and this is simply not something that most people need or want. Good ice it is something that everyone can appreciate, and while Bespoke is probably very expensive for the average person, its ability to produce good ice, or pebble, means that this technology is finally reaching the refrigerators. If that means a refrigerator in four years’ time can help me make a drink as satisfying as a Vanilla Dr. Pepper cherry on Sonic I’m all in. – Alex Cranz
TCL XL Collection
For TV buyers looking for the largest possible screen on the tightest budget, I have some great news: TCL is growing in 2021. The company’s new XL collection will feature three 85-inch screen models, including a 4K QLED powered by Roku TV, a 4-Series with Roku TV and an 8K QLED TV. Options! We still don’t know how much TCL will charge for two of these three, but we do know that the Series 4 (85R435) will sell for $ 1,600, which is a ridiculously good deal for a screen this size (and if you can wait a while, that price will probably fall closer to the holiday). Everyone is debuting monstrous screens this year, but TCL’s XL screens are likely to be a tough deal to win. – Catie Keck
The strangest gadgets at CES 2021
Razer Brooklyn Project and Hazel Project
Strange doesn’t necessarily mean bad, and in the case of Razer’s two conceptual devices for CES 2021, Razer is presenting different methods for dealing with some of the daily problems that people may face this year. One hand Brooklyn Project represents the definitive evolution of a gaming chair and, even with its rollable 60-inch over-the-top OLED display and RGB lighting, it is something that virtually any player would love to have at home. Meanwhile, Hazel Project is an innovative version of a standard reusable mask, offering the kind of protection people need against airborne viruses, while addressing many of the problems people have with traditional cloth or paper facial coverings. Honestly, the main thing that keeps these concepts in strange territory, instead of jumping to our best list, is that they are both closer to fiction than something you can buy. – Sam Rutherford
Cold wave
Keurig dominates the food space based on capsules, while others, like Juicero, have spectacularly failed to try to force their way. While the machines promise that experience is all about convenience, there are some major tradeoffs in this approach. Pods need to be manufactured and recycled, and the cost per pod usually means that if you’re not using the device several times a day, it’s just not worth it. O Cold wave it also looks like a crossbow from a machine and looks like it would take up LOTS of space on your counter for the convenience of a creamy ice cream in just 90 seconds. You can buy ice cream makers for less than $ 100 that take longer, but you can also use all your own ingredients. – Andrew Liszewski
Panasonic nanoe hair dryer
O Panasonic nanoe hair dryer (EH-NA67-W) is actually named after a feature in which the hair dryer takes moisture from the air around it (which is presumably very moist after a bath or shower) and then blows your hair out with “tiny, moisture-rich particles” Which Panasonic claims to be “1,000 times wetter” than the charged ion particles that other hair dryers use to achieve the same moisturizing effect. It also has a unique quick-drying oscillating nozzle that moves quickly back and forth in an attempt to dry your hair faster and with less effort. For $ 150, it sits between a cheap store hair dryer and premium offers from Dyson and it could be cool if it sounded really weird technology actually job. – Andrew Liszewski
AMD and NKeynotes from vidia
Both AMD and Nvidia had good news related to mobile devices at CES 2021, but new news doesn’t mean exciting news, and a massive shortage in the GPU space it meant that both companies seemed to have avoided making the ads much bigger than fans expected. We’ll get the Radeon 6700 and RTX 3070 Super someday, but not at CES. – Joanna Nelius
Harman Personal audio headrest platform
Car seat headrest built-in speakers that goes down to channel the music on your ears is a very good idea, but I’m not sure if it’s necessarily practical. Speakers on either side of your head seem as a good way to cause some damage to your head in the event of an accident, and it will be absolutely annoying if you are driving with a friend and he abruptly opens the speakers. There is also the way it kills the singer in the car which is practically necessary if you have two or more people in a car and someone is a kickass with the AUX cable. I do not hate Harman personal audio headrest platform, but definitely it seems like a strange solution to a problem that few people have. – Alex Cranz
Samsung Eco Remote Control
I’m thrilled to see a TV manufacturer moving away from disposable AA or AAA batteries that are likely to end up in the trash. To believe in Samsung, it’s a new Eco Remote Control—That will ship with all your new 2021 QLED 4K and 8K TVs – you can charge via lightweight, as well as via a USB-C port, and Samsung says the remote can last up to two years on a single charge. This is not so bad if you are buying a TV that you hope to have for the next 10 years or more. I am cautiously optimistic about this remote control, but I would like to see it in action before I get too excited about the future of TV wands. Certainly looks as a step in the right direction, however. – Catie Keck
Morari Patch
It is a stain … bandage …that zappies the no man’s land between the scrotum and the anus to prevent premature ejaculation. Do I really need to elaborate? – Victoria Song
