John Krasinski Presented Saturday Night Live

Saturday Night Live ended 2020 with a festive and fun Christmas episode hosted by a veteran cast member and Wonder Woman 1984 co-star Kristen Wiig. It was the last SNL before the presidential inauguration it gave us renewed hope for a year that would not be so full of nightmare days.

With the first SNL of 2021, you can feel this rejuvenation with the host for the first time John Krasinski take the stage. Perhaps it is because there is almost no mention of the ex-president of the United States, but this episode was full of energy, and even the bad skits were full of life, despite not stumbling over the comic side of things.

The best

The loser – It was time for Andrew Dismukes to have a chance to shine. Even though this is mostly a sketch of John Krasinski, like the brother he’s trying to defend, Dismukes has some really funny interludes while the embarrassing monologue continues. This sketch got me rolling. The endless list of strange flaws, especially the extensive description of what’s wrong with the younger brother’s genitals, is pure gold. I wanted the last joke to have a slightly stronger impact, but there’s no denying that it was the best one of the night.

Gemini – At first, I was a little concerned that there might be another draft addressing Reddit’s stock market situation after it was covered and needed to be out in the open. Fortunately, this has turned into something much better, using the now common scenario of cable news interviews taking place at the home of several anchors, analysts and experts. Kate McKinnon and Mikey Day are just as terrifying and funny as these unnerving twins, and Beck Bennett’s growing fear combined with Cecily Strong’s indifferent rejection just makes it better.

Subway field – Whenever Beck Bennett puts on a bit of a tough New York or Chicago accent, I know I’ll probably love a sketch. Play John Krasinski doing the same thing, and I totally agree. The fact that the draft is about Sunday advertising only makes the process even funnier. The children’s climb and the confrontation with the young and new publicity speech are expected, but that doesn’t make it any less funny.
