The bears asked to speak to George Edwards about DC’s work

The Chicago Bears has a vacancy as a defensive coordinator and is taking the opportunity to examine all internal candidates and others to replace Chuck Pagano, who retired this off-season.

Following a report that the Bears made a request to interview defensive coach Jonathan Gannon of the Indianapolis Colts, Chicago is also asking to speak with Dallas Cowboys defense assistant George Edwards about his opening as a defensive coordinator, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.

If the Bears are looking for experience in the position of defensive coordinator, Edwards could be the guy. Prior to serving as Dallas’s senior defensive assistant, Edwards was the defensive coordinator for the 2014-19 Minnesota Vikings. Prior to that, he also served as defense coordinator for Buffalo Bills (2010-11) and Washington Football Team (2003).

Interestingly, Edwards was interviewed for the Bears coach spot in 2018, before Matt Nagy was hired. So he’s someone on their radar.

There have been reports that the Bears are also considering some internal candidates for the position of defensive coordinator, such as defensive line coach Jay Rodgers and security technician Sean Desai.
