Google Assistant has been able to “remember” things on your behalf for years, with voice memos saved on any supported device. It is one of the most valuable tools that any voice assistant can offer, and Google is trying to make it much more powerful. A new visual layout for Assistant Memory is now being tested, designed to improve the way reminders work on your phone.

Google’s new and improved memory feature combines its existing reminder function with something similar to a full note app, according to a disassembled 9to5Google APK. It is a very significant change from how the Assistant currently manages and displays reminders, capable of storing real-world information, such as package shipments and flight reservations, for digital content such as playlists and articles. Memory can save links from the phone screen, capture photos with the camera, or use voice-to-text conversion to write down anything you say out loud.

These memos are organized in a new UI that allows you to manage, modify and delete stored content from your account. This feature is not part of the Google snapshot feed; instead, it is a second tab located within the Assistant app itself. An optional shortcut dedicated to the home screen makes it easy to open your saved reminders without using voice commands.

It is not known when the Memory will be ready for a public release – or if it will ever leave internal testing. Still, this leak seems like a much-needed update to the way the Assistant keeps reminders today, so hopefully it won’t be long before it becomes official.
