An Apple Spring event is taking place, where we were able to see a new iPad Pro 2021, AirTags and more. But the date seems to be in the air.
Taiwan’s Economic Daily News reports that Apple’s next big event will take place on Tuesday, March 16. Suffice to say that the translation mechanisms do not help much in the nature of their sources, but the article cites two Twitter accounts – @LeaksApplePro and @FrontTron – as independently arriving on the same date.
But not so fast. One of Apple’s most trusted reporters, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, says in no uncertain terms that this date is out of the question.
It gets more interesting. @LeaksApplePro replied, saying he would “investigate a little more” before tweeting later that there would definitely be an event in March, although without confirmation on the 16th.
Seeing you a little lost. * There is * an event in March. Now we all think it was the 16th, but Mark seems to have heard a different date, but that’s it. Don’t worry, you will have an event.February 20, 2021
So, while you should certainly consider the date of March 16 with a salt shaker, something is to come. Spring events have long been a feature of Apple’s calendar, with the iPad Pro 2020 debuting on March 18. In 2019, it was March 25th and in 2018 it fell on March 27th, so later it is certainly possible.
There is a long list of things we can see at the Apple Spring 2021 event, but the report keeps the list of likely candidates at three: a new iPad Pro, an updated iPad mini and the long-awaited AirTags.
The star of the show will undoubtedly be the 2021 iPad Pro. Although a dramatic redesign is not expected, the tablet is inclined to receive an updated mini-LED screen, new built-in magnets to increase its accessory set and 5G for those willing to pay more for a cell phone model.
Next comes the iPad mini 6, which has not been updated since 2019. It may seem like a long time under Apple terms, but it is worth remembering that before that the company had not launched a new mini tablet since 2015. In no case, this could be another dramatic redesign, given that the 2019 version looked a lot like its 2015 predecessor Rumors point to smaller bezels, which can stretch the screen to 8.4 inches.
Finally, there are AirTags. The product finder will sync with other devices via the U1 Ultra Wideband sensor, making it a rival for Tile. Although AirTags has apparently been finished for some time, it has not appeared in recent events. This time, maybe? Leaker Jon Prosser seems to think so, tweeting last week that they “are still live for March” and that he “has not heard of more delays this time”.
Other possibilities not mentioned include AirPods 3, AirPods Pro 2 and updated iMacs 2021 – possibly with Apple Silicon inside – but there is a lot that can be covered in a single event, and Prosser doesn’t seem to think this is likely this time around.

We should (hopefully) know for sure next month.
