Apex Legends will have an impact in 2021 – literally.
Battle Royale will have a Pathfinder themed event called “Fight Night” next week. The event is bringing a series of new additions to start 2021 with an explosion, including a new collection, the Gibraltar heritage set, a boxing ring for a Pathfinder Town Takeover and a new approach on limited time modes – and it’s launched at 10 pm CT on January 5.
Enter the ring
Respawn has big plans for Pathfinder. Recently, we saw Forward Scout get their own episode of Stories from the Outlands and now it has its own event – complete with a Town Takeover.
The event will place a boxing ring at Olympus near the intersection of Docks and Power Grid, and the only way to defeat your enemies is with your own hands. “Entering the ring will prevent any player from using their weapons and any of their skills,” says the official blog. “And don’t worry about any outside interference from the ring – no external projectiles, grenades or abilities can penetrate the ring’s force field.”
Game type acquisition: Airdrop Escalation
Fight Night is bringing a new type of game and reviewing how Apex deals with LTMs. Airdrop Escalation will be available during the event and will take over the matchmaking queue. Instead of choosing between casual modes and the new LTM, players will only have the option to join the queue for Airdrop Escalation.
The set of limited time rules will decrease an increasing number of items discarded since the start of each match, each with a fully equipped weapon. Previous rounds will have lower level weapons, but the later stages of the game may launch red Evo Shields and caution pack weapons. Normal weapons will still appear as land loot, however.
The new acquisition model is another experiment by Respawn. Instead of dividing players into two separate rows, the game will temporarily switch exclusively to the new game mode. Airdrop Escalation is not as different from basic gameplay as other time-limited modes (like last year’s Flashpoint), which can make you a good candidate for the experiment.
New collection and relic of Gibraltar
It wouldn’t be a collection event without new cosmetics, and Fight Night is bringing a truck full of them. The event’s exclusive visuals include new costumes for Wattson, Mirage, Crypto, Revenant, Loba, Lifeline and others – including the show’s own star.
Pathfinder’s new look is a reference to the short film Fight Night, when the MRVN disguised itself with an overcoat and a felt hat to avoid detection. Based on the trailer, the new cosmetic could have a unique character selection animation that makes it fight a Specter – similar to how other visuals from the Outlands series stories, like Wraith’s Voidwalker and Bloodhound’s Young Blood, come with their own animations. .
Having all 24 cosmetics in the collection will reward players with a special item: the Gibraltar family heirloom set. His relic weapon first appeared during the seventh season mission. In Family Portrait, Gibby appears to be holding an ax-like object called Patu. The search revealed that it was made to order by her then boyfriend Nik and Gibraltar kept him after all those years. Players who do not complete the set during the event, however, can still pick up the battle ax with the elusive Heritage Fragments.
Drop-drop MRVNs
The end of the seventh season mission saw the legends recover an old battery from Lifeline’s father and players will be able to use it in the game. When interacting with friendly robots, some items will be discarded based on the layer displayed on their integrated monitors. Players who shoot MRVNs can grab your arms and transplant them into another robot to get some loot – but if you do, you will probably be a bad person.
