The advisor says Rudy Giuliani is no longer Donald Trump’s lawyer amid the $ 1.3 billion Dominion lawsuit

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is no longer serving as a personal lawyer for former President Donald Trump, according to a Trump spokesman.

Giuliani was recently targeted by Dominion Voting Systems in a $ 1.3 billion lawsuit over his claims that the company’s voting machines helped “steal” Trump’s 2020 presidential election.

More recently, Giuliani served as the public face of Trump’s campaign attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in state courts and legislatures. As part of their efforts, Giuliani and other Trump supporters claimed that Dominion’s voting machines were programmed to divert Trump’s votes to President Joe Biden.

Dominion has repeatedly denied the allegations and, in January, filed a $ 1.3 billion defamation lawsuit against Giuliani and Trump’s attorney Sidney Powell, another former member of the Trump campaign’s legal team.

On January 25, Dominion CEO John Paulos said in a statement that Giuliani’s continuing claims about Dominion’s participation in electoral fraud “undermined confidence in American democratic institutions,” adding “[Giuliani] continues to make demonstrable false claims and we intend to hold you responsible, as well as others who spread misinformation. “

On the same day, Giuliani said the Dominion process was “designed to scare people with a weak heart”. Giuliani called it “another act of intimidation by the hate-filled left to eliminate and censor the exercise of freedom of expression, as well as the ability of lawyers to vigorously defend their clients”. He also pledged to file a lawsuit against the electronic voting machine company.

Giuliani said he wants to examine the technology behind Dominion’s electronic voting machines, as well as the company’s history, finances and business negotiations to uncover possible corruption. There is no evidence that Dominion committed any electoral fraud or an exchange of votes in the 2020 national elections.

At the same time, Giuliani also faces possible legal problems for his alleged role in instigating the January 6 uprising on the United States Capitol.

At Trump’s “Stop the Steal” rally before the insurrection, Giuliani continued to push his theory about the rigged electronic ballot boxes while Trump repeatedly told the crowd that the election had been stolen from him. Giuliani also told the crowd: “We are going to make a trial by combat”, instead of trying to continue litigating the election result in court; an attempt that had already failed in more than 60 lawsuits filed by Trump and the Republican Party.

In late January, Middlebury College in Vermont revoked an honorary title it had awarded Giuliani in recognition of his response to the September 11, 2001 attacks as mayor of New York City. The president of the private liberal arts college, Laurie Patton, accused Giuliani of “fomenting the violent revolt” at the Capitol on January 6.

Giuliani also faces expulsion from the New York State Bar Association for his role in the January 6 uprising.
