That viral image of a 5G chip ‘hidden’ in COVID vaccines? It is actually a guitar pedal.

OK, this has to be a troll.

A new image that went viral on social media claims to be a diagram showing the inner workings of a 5G chip that was inserted into coronavirus vaccines – part of an old online conspiracy theory.

However, what the image really shows is a circuit board for a guitar pedal.

A Boss Metal Zone guitar pedal, to be exact.

Coronavirus misinformation is nothing new on the Internet. Even the strange (and false!) Claims that 5G technology causes COVID-19 have become so common on social media that major platforms have had to do against these conspiracies.

However, this latest 5G coronavirus conspiracy theory really takes the cake. It is so exaggerated that it really looks like a joke.

The image shot on social media when user Mario Fusco shared it in a tweet, saying the conspiracy is being shared in Italy. The in your image points to an anonymous self-publishing platform, Telegraph. Attempts to find a source elsewhere have been unsuccessful. However, he certainly loves this story.

So, it all probably came from a troll. After all, the diagram still includes terms like “bass”, “gain”, “treble” and “pedal”. Even if you have no musical inclination, those words should be an indication that this may not really be a secret 5G coronavirus vaccine microchip.

But also, if we know anything about conspiracy theories, it is that none of that matters. This will not prevent the image and the disinformation that accompanies it from being passed on as truth by some less experienced corners of the Internet (hello,).
