Texas coach Steve Sarkisian is expected to add another important member to his coaching staff who have ties to Alabama.
FootballScoop reported on Sunday that Sarkisian is picking up veteran players’ team director Drew Hughes of South Carolina. In Sarkisian’s words, “you just don’t say no to a place like this”.
Hughes is highly respected on the college football scene and has spent time in Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Central Florida and the State of NC before going to South Carolina.
Derek Chang spent four seasons as director of the Longhorns players’ team under Tom Herman. Chang officially announced via Twitter on Friday that he would not be held under Sarkisian.
Of course, Sarkisian is trying to emulate what he saw in the past two years under Nick Saban. He brought several members of the offensive and defensive team linked to Alabama and the SEC. Hughes is known for forming a team similar to the way NFL teams build their squad.
Hughes served as a recruitment specialist for Saban from 2007-11. Given the success of the Southeast Conference over the past decade, why not build your football program in a similar light?
