Texas sees decline in new coronavirus cases, data show

In the past two weeks, the average number of new coronavirus daily cases in Texas has decreased by 42.5%, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

Last week, Governor Greg Abbott ended the state’s COVID-19 restrictions, including the state’s mask mandate.

The Texas State Department of Health Services reported 2,347 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 69 additional deaths on Sunday. The secretariat also informed that the number of hospitalizations continues to fall, to 4,093.

Johns Hopkins data shows that more than 46,300 people have died of COVID-19 in Texas so far, the third highest death toll in the U.S.

According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 2.8 million Texans have completed their vaccinations. That is almost 10% of the state’s population.
