Texas restores power to 2 million homes

Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) said on Thursday that the state had restored power to about 2 million homes, The Washington Post reported.

About 2.7 million homes in Texas were left without power on Wednesday morning. The Texas power grid was heavily affected by the winter storms that spread across much of the US this week.

The Post noted that 32 deaths have been attributed to the low temperatures so far.

As of this afternoon, there are no residential power cuts due to lack of power generation, “tweeted Abbott.” If any home has no power it is due to cut power lines or the need for the power company to reconnect manually. If you do not have power, contact your local power provider. “

Abbott has requested that network operator reform be prioritized as an emergency item for Texas state legislators, calling the power outage “unacceptable”.

The Biden administration on Thursday sent 60 generators, as well as badly needed supplies to Texas. The generators will be used to support critical locations such as hospitals and water facilities. Other supplies sent to the Lone Star State included blankets, meals and water.

The Texas power grid is almost entirely cut off from the two other major power grids in the United States, Eastern Interconnection and Western Interconnection. The grill is also poorly equipped to handle low temperatures, lacking the winter preparation and insulation needed to deal with the current winter climate.
