Texas rapper killed in interstate shooting in Georgia

ATLANTA (AP) – A shooting on Interstate 85, in the suburb of Atlanta, claimed the life of a rising rap artist in Texas, one of three interstate shootings in the metropolitan area in two days, officials said on Saturday.

Rapper Corey Detiege, who performed under the stage name Chucky Trill, died in an area hospital after Friday’s early-morning shooting, police in the Gwinnett County suburb said.

Police Cpl. Collin Flynn, a department spokesman, said someone stopped next to Detiege’s car and opened fire at about 3 am on Friday, WSB TV reported. Ditiege, 33, was from Sugar Land, Texas.

Flynn said the suspect ran away and the motive for the murder is unknown. The police gave no immediate description of the suspect’s vehicle and made no arrests.

On Saturday, a man was hit by a bullet on I-285 in DeKalb County when another driver pulled up beside him and opened fire, said DeKalb police spokesman, Officer Elise Wells.

Police officers were called to a gas station at about 4 am after the man, who was in his 40s, stopped and called 911, Wells said.

“It appears that the victim was traveling 285 when an unknown vehicle pulled up next to him and fired several shots at the victim’s car,” Wells said in an emailed statement to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. It is unclear what motivated the shooting.

The man was taken to hospital and is expected to recover, officials said.

And about an hour before Detiege was killed on Friday, someone shot a driver in the head on Interstate 75, officials said. This man is still hospitalized. A witness told police that the shot was fired after two cars tried to occupy the same lane. The sniper ran away.

There have been at least four previous incidents in interstates in the area this year.

Rapper Bun B was among several artists who expressed condolences on social media after Detiege’s death.

“This was a good man. Humble. Work hard. Faithful. Determined. Focused. And he had the talent. Queen saw him and said to @boneafied “This boy is good. If he doesn’t have a manager, you should do this. ”And he did, putting everything he had in it. We are heartbroken this morning and send our deepest condolences to D, Bone and all of their family, friends and supporters. Buy or stream your music and we will keep your memory alive. #RIPChuckyTrill ”, said his post.

Chucky Trill was run by Bone of Boneafied Entertainment, which also runs Bun B.

The shooting takes place before the NBA All-Star game on Sunday in Atlanta. But Flynn could not confirm whether Detiege was in Atlanta for the game.

Chucky Trill released his album “Music for the Soul” in 2018 and had more songs in the works, reported the Houston Chronicle.

Police said the recent trend of interstate shootings in Atlanta is very worrying.

“Not only can the person lose control of the car after being shot or injured by a shot, but also if you are shooting from a moving vehicle and there are other vehicles in motion, you can be shot,” said Flynn.
