Texas mother dies after entire family of 7, including newborn baby, from contracting coronavirus

CYPRESS, Texas – a mother of five died in Texas who was in an induced coma and struggling for her life after contracting COVID-19.

According to an update posted to her GoFundMe account, Victoria Gallardo of Cypress, 33, died on March 16. She left her husband, Armando, and five young children.

“Please understand that she fought this battle to the last breath,” read the update. “Although many family members, friends and others have prayed for her recovery, we recognize that she is now healed, but not in the way we hoped.”

KTRK-TV in Houston first reported Victoria’s battle with the coronavirus earlier this month. Her husband said they took the virus seriously. They wore masks and practiced social detachment, but their 9-year-old daughter contracted the virus after showing symptoms one day at school.

“We were wearing masks everywhere,” said Armando at the time.

The family of seven fell ill, including their newborn daughter when she was just 11 days old.

“She had a very high fever, she didn’t want to eat, she was sleeping a lot,” said Armando of his newborn. “We were very concerned. We didn’t think she would survive.”

But as he and the children got better, he said that Victoria got worse.

“She has no health problems. No underlying conditions,” said Armando at the time. “She went to the ICU and is in a critical condition.”

Armando now has the couple’s five young children. Friends and family hope the GoFundMe account will help raise money for the family. Victoria was a military veteran, according to friends. If you are interested in donating, visit Victoria’s GoFundMe here.
