Texas skyrocketed to a quick 14-0 lead after Bijan Robinson hit twice early, with an eight-yard touchdown run and a 14-yard reception and running at a screen pace. The Longhorns would start the second half with a long Bijan race once again. He ran 66 yards to put the Longhorns in a great position. Casey Thompson meets Joshua Moore at the touchdown launch of the 13-yard line. Texas would increase 24-10. Sam Ehlinger was removed from the rest of the game due to a shoulder injury.
When the Longhorns catch the ball again, Thompson leaves with guns firing. He led the attack with a touchdown pass on the second straight to Moore, extending the lead to 31-10 with 8:00 in the third quarter. The attack began to buzz with Thompson as the game’s quarterback. In his third series of the game, he led them to a third consecutive goal with another Cameron Dicker field goal to increase the lead to 24 points. The Colorado reserve Brenden Lewis was able to get some big chunks that included a 42-yard run to set up another touchdown run by Jarek Broussard of the two. The conversion failed to maintain a three-point game, 34-16.
As the game progressed to the fourth period, Thompson and Robinson made their mark on the game. Robinson gave the reserve quarterback a pass and ran 23 yards for his third touchdown in the game. On his next shot, Thompson hit freshman Kelvontay Dixon on the field for a 73-yard reception and a run. Texas led the way 48-23.
Hudson Card would receive a few clicks in the last 10 minutes of the game. After Colorado recovered the ball, the defense forced a fumble from DeMarvion Overshown. On the next play, Roschon Johnson had an incredible run after forcing four wrong tackles to run 21 yards for another touchdown run.
The Longhorns set a school record for points in a bowl game with 55, breaking the 2007 Holiday Bowl record of 52 points. Casey Thompson tied an Alamo Bowl record with four touchdown passes in a quarter of a game.
