Dallas County reported 1,671 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday and 40 more deaths from COVID-19 – the highest the county reported in a single day during the pandemic.
Across the state, Texas also reported a record number of deaths in one day, adding 467 deaths on Wednesday.
The last victims in Dallas County were mainly in their 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Twenty-five of the victims were from Dallas – including two women in their 20s, one of whom had no underlying health problems. Six were from Mesquite, three from DeSoto, three from Duncanville and one from Garland, Hutchins and Sachse.
“These deaths are a result of the high number of COVID cases that have been reported in the past few weeks,” said Judge Clay Jenkins in a prepared statement. “The increase in deaths always follows the increase in infections”.

Of the new cases, 1,397 were confirmed and 274 were likely.
The new reported cases bring the county total to 252,047, including 222,409 confirmed cases and 29,638 probable cases. The death toll is 2,092.
Health officials use hospitalizations, intensive care admissions and visits to emergency rooms as key indicators to track the real-time impact of COVID-19 in the county. In the 24-hour period ended on Tuesday, 1,137 patients with COVID-19 were in intensive care at hospitals in the municipality. During the same period, 600 visits to the emergency room were for symptoms of the disease.
According to state data, 119,237 people in Dallas County received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, while 23,244 are fully vaccinated.
Texas
Across the state, an additional 19,613 cases were reported on Wednesday, along with an additional 467 deaths, the highest number of deaths reported during the pandemic.
The death toll in Texas is now 35,168.
Of the cases notified Wednesday, 15,072 were confirmed and 4,541 were likely.
The new notified cases raise the state total to 2,292,732, including 2,003,135 confirmed cases and 289,597 probable cases.
According to state data, 1,603,193 people in Texas received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 320,310 are fully vaccinated.
Tarrant County
Tarrant County reported 1,227 cases of coronavirus and 12 deaths on Wednesday.
The latest victims included three Arlington men: one in his 30s and two in his 80s. Two Fort Worth residents also died – a man and woman in their 60s – as well as two Mansfield women, one in her 60s and another in her 70s.
Other victims include two Southlake men over 90 and three men in their 70s in Benbrook, Grapevine and Grand Prairie.
All the victims had underlying health problems, county officials said.
Of the new cases, 982 were confirmed and 245 were likely. The new cases bring the county total to 211,076, including 182,189 confirmed cases and 28,887 probable cases. The death toll is 2,113.
According to the city, 1,279 people are hospitalized with the virus until Wednesday.
According to state data, 92,668 people in Tarrant County received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 10,310 are fully vaccinated.
Collin County
The state added 1,010 cases of coronavirus and 11 deaths to Collin County total Wednesday.
No details about the latest victims were available.
Of the new cases, 673 were confirmed and 337 were likely.
New reported cases bring the county total to 70,414, including 60,378 confirmed cases and 10,036 probable cases. The death toll is 550.
According to the municipality, 509 people are hospitalized with the virus.
According to state data, 44,954 people in Collin County received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 9,844 are fully vaccinated.
Denton County
Denton County reported 645 cases of coronavirus and no deaths on Wednesday.
The new reported cases bring the county total to 51,857, including 41,295 confirmed cases and 10,562 probable cases. The death toll is 308.
According to the municipality, 184 people are hospitalized with the virus.
According to state data, 24,750 people in Denton County received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, while 5,468 are fully vaccinated.
Other counties
The Texas Department of Health Services has taken over the reports for these other northern Texas counties. In some counties, new data may not be reported every day.
The last numbers are:
- Rockwall County: 9,082 cases (7,561 confirmed and 1,521 probable), 91 deaths.
- Kaufman County: 12,688 cases (11,028 confirmed and 1,660 likely), 176 deaths.
- Ellis County: 18,139 cases (15,930 confirmed and 2,209 probable), 228 deaths.
- Johnson County: 16,021 cases (14,176 confirmed and 1,845 probable), 251 deaths.
