Texas church shooting leaves two injured, including child

Police are investigating a shootout on the east side of San Antonio, Texas, on Sunday afternoon, which left a man in critical condition and a 6-year-old boy injured.

Investigators were called to the scene on block 4400 on Lord Road, near Martin Luther King Drive and WW White Rd, shortly after 3 pm.

A suspect was waiting under a tree when the trio’s vehicle entered the parking lot. He then ran to the vehicle and started to open fire.

McManus said the man and the boy were shot in the crossfire. The man is in critical condition, while the boy suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder and is expected to survive. The girlfriend was not hit by the shooting.

Witnesses saw the sniper running around the neighborhood barefoot after the attack.

McManus said the incident was not a random shooting, noting that the target of the attack was the 24/25-year-old man.

“All the violence across the city is pushing the envelope, but when you do that at a church event, it’s pretty much unprecedented and we won’t stop until we capture this individual,” added McManus. “This is unnecessary madness that someone would be bold enough to do that, on a Sunday afternoon, at a church event.”

The department is currently following leads that McManus said will allow the police to close the case sooner or later.
