Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Wednesday pardoned $ 29 million in unpaid bills as part of a lawsuit against Griddy Energy after an unusual snowstorm cut off the power of millions of Texans in February.

Griddy is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. As part of his bankruptcy plan, Paxton said the company will offer “releases to approximately 24,000 former customers who owe $ 29.1 million in unpaid electricity bills”.

“Griddy and my office are involved in ongoing good faith negotiations to try to offer additional relief to Griddy customers who have already paid their storm-related energy bills,” said Paxton.
The company said in a February 19 statement that it is “committed to crediting customers for any relief received, dollar for dollar” and that it is working with the Texas Electric Reliability Council and the Texas Public Utility Commission to do this. .
