Texans want to adjust David Johnson’s contract

While Duke Johnson is out of the picture of Texans in 2021, they still have David Johnson under contract. And the maximum number of the ex-All-Pro has dropped nearly $ 3 million from what it was in 2020.

However, Texans still want to reduce the maximum number of holders, notes Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. Entering the final season of his contract with the Cardinals, Johnson is expected to have $ 8.5 million against the internationalization of the Texans in 2021. That number is the sixth among running backs.

The Texans made David Johnson the centerpiece of a negotiation that most observers immediately criticized when they acquired him in a deal he sent DeAndre Hopkins for the cards. But Nick Caserio he was obviously not involved in this controversial exchange. The new GM has already cut several key entries or contributions – including Duke Johnson, Nick Martin and JJ Watt – so seeing Texans trying to save $ 6 million or more by cutting David Johnson would be especially surprising.

In his first season in Texas, David Johnson accumulated 1,005 scrimmage yards in 12 games. Johnson, who spent time on the IR because of a concussion, also increased his transportation average from 3.7 in his final season in Arizona to 4.7 in 2020. Despite joining the NFL in 2015, Johnson will be 30 this year year.

The six-year veteran has a guaranteed $ 2.1MM remaining on his contract and would be interested in staying with the Texans for a second season, according to Wilson. He may need to agree to a payment cut to do so, although the parties may agree to an extension that would lower his 2021 limit.
