Texans spend interviewing Eric Bieniemy

The Chiefs’ offensive coordinator, Eric Bieniemy, became one of the top candidates for a NFL coaching position in 2020. He is not a candidate for the coaching position in Houston.

Texans are the only team with a technical vacancy that did not ask for permission to interview Bieniemy, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com.

Chargers, Jaguars, Jets, Lions and Falcons interviewed Bieniemy, who helped turn quarterback Patrick Mahomes into a superstar. Texans have Deshaun Watson as a defender.

Why not at least interview Bieniemy? Although Texans are under no obligation to do so, it is difficult to have much faith in their process – or to believe that this quest is not about finding the best coach for Texans, but finding the best coach for Jack Easterby – if Bieniemy is not given the chance for an interview for the position.

It would be interesting to hear the Texans explain the basis for their decision to ignore Bieniemy at some point. And it would be interesting to know what Watson thinks about that.

Maybe yes. Perhaps this is the message contained in Watson’s cryptic tweet on Tuesday: “Some things never change. “
